Highlands of Mongol Altai

Highlands of Mongol Altai is part of the Tentative list of Mongolia in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

The Highlands of Mongol Altai proposal comprises three protected areas that represent a sequence of altitudinal vegetation zones from steppe, mixed forest, subalpine to alpine vegetation. The sites are important habitats for rare or endangered animal species such as the snow leopard, argali sheep, ibex and lynx. The Mongolian Altai also includes archaeological remains of nomads and their empires different periods of the last three millennia.
